Applicants must have the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills (or equivalent). An interview will also be required, as well as a skills practice assessment.
Good IT knowledge is required to produce a portfolio, which you will submit for assessment.
Please note the maximum advanced learner loan amount for 2022-2023 is £2225. Students will be required to pay the additional difference in course fee.
Course information
Learners will complete this qualification with a comprehensive and full understanding of the following:
– Ethical frameworks, including the importance of setting, supervision and casework management in counselling
– The impact diverse culture and heritage can have on the client/counsellor relationship in a multicultural society
– One major therapeutic model
– How to conduct a counselling session with a client in an ethical, effective and safe way
– How to increase self-awareness
– The purpose and importance of research in counselling
2 years within a 2.5 year span (1 evening per week , plus some additional workshops / online classes).
The portfolio must be completed by the end of the second academic year. A maximum of an extra 6 months is allowed for learners who have not yet completed the 100 supervised placement hours.
Classbased and may include some online lessons and / or tutorials
Learners will produce a comprehensive portfolio of work which will be submitted to and assessed by the awarding body – SEG. Learners are also required to find a suitable placement where they are able to conduct 100 hours of supervised counselling.
In order to progress to year 2, learners must successfully complete year 1.
SEG Awards – Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
Upon achievement, learners are qualified counsellors and are able to practice within a counselling organisation. After 1 year of successful practice within an organisation, learners are able to set up their own private practice. Many learners progress towards national accreditation status with professional lead bodies.
