Course information

In year 1, you will study the psychological and sociological theories of crime as well as how crime is perceived in society and the impact of the media and crime statistics.

In year 2, you will investigate the different techniques used in a criminal investigation such as forensics, policing and the judiciary process. You will also consider the effectiveness of different strategies used to reduce criminality from custodial sentences and the impact of community orders.

2 Years

This applied general qualification is a WJEC Level 3 Diploma (equivalent to one full A-Level). You will be assessed through written exams and controlled assessment.

Level 3 WJEC Diploma in Criminology

We run visits to the Old Bailey, Forensic Science and Court trial days where students can gain some idea of a career that they are pursuing. We also deliver talks on local prisons, receive visits from the local police and prison governor as well as visits from university lecturers, so there is plenty of opportunity to engage with professionals within the criminal justice system.
