Course Overview

Have you ever thought about taking your sewing talent to the next level and being able to create costumes and dress styles from your favourite era, then this course is for you.
Each term will focus on a different era:

Term 1: 18th Century Court Gowns C1700s (e.g. Marie Attoinette)
Term 2: 19th Century Regency Gowns C1795 1838 (e.g. Bridgerton
Term 3: Early 20th Century/Belle Époque (Titanic)

You can choose to do just one term, two, or all three; each term must be booked and paid for separately.

Course information

Skills developed may include:
 Making Stays
 Drafting a sleeve
 Draping – bodice, skirt, sack-back pleats, taking a pattern from draping.
 Making panniers and surface decoration samples
 Assembling toile/mock-up
 Assembling pieces into final fabrics
 Accessorising

Optional fabric sampling trip (costs to be confirmed)

Once per week, for 5 hours over 10 weeks

Workshop and project based

There are no formal assessments on this course, although you will be required to keep a portfolio of your work.

You will acquire the practical skills to brings your creations to life.


The majority of materials and equipment will be provided however, you may like to bring some of your own, you will need a basic sewing kit, calico approx 1 m for the first session, pattern paper. Other items will be discussed as the course progresses and to allow for individual styling.
